Spoerke Signet Ring (Initial Sketch)

One thing that I've been really interested in recently is the concept of a Signet ring, the problem is the Spoerke's don't have a family crest or emblem.

So, while sitting in a meeting, I started designing the Spoerke family crest but what to convey? As a designer and craft's person I've always been drawn to the image of Hephaestus. I wanted to convey the idea that with imagination, skill, and effort anything can be created.

I also like the image of the snake (although I don't love the snake that I drew). The snake is such an odd symbol in mytholog and history. While it's classically associated w/ the devil, our forefathers embraced the snake (especially the rattlesnake) as a symbol of freedom. The idea being that the rattlesnake is peaceful unless provoked or attacked.

The design needs further evolution and refinement but overall I like where it's headed.
